Australian songwriter Mia Dyson is heading home this March for a run of special shows to celebrate the release of her forthcoming EP Right There. Featuring her latest single ‘Tearing Up the Lawn’, the EP follows up her 2014 album Idyllwild which saw her take out the J Award for Double J Artist of the Year and continued her rise both here at home and in the US, where she now shares her time.
Written alongside her husband over the past year and a half, after tailoring a track around a selection of her partner’s poetry, the Right There EP is a crisp, folk-rock release, layered with elements of soul, blues and heartfelt indie-rock.
“My husband Karl and I have been writing together for over a year, since I put one of his poems to music. We loved the process so much that the entire EP was written together.”
The ‘Right There’ tour follows up a successful run of shows with The Waifs last year and will also include visits to some of her favourite festivals including Port Fairy.
“This will be my first headline tour in more than a year at home so I’m really excited to be returning, especially with some new songs in tow which I’m super proud of,” said Dyson. “’Tearing Up the Lawn’ got an amazing response when we dropped it for the Waifs shows last year and I can’t wait for everyone to hear the rest of the EP.”
‘Tearing Up the Lawn’ showed a real progression for Mia Dyson as she continued to tread her own path between folk and rock. With media references to a female Springsteen being added to more traditional comparisons with Bonnie Raitt and Ani Difranco, the track was a signpost for what’s to come as Dyson sheds the shackles of genre and delves into a more exploratory rock sound.
