Blue mountains-based acoustic rock trio, Eddie Boyd and The Phatapillars, are still celebrating after winning the prestigious Bluesfest Busking Competition which took place over Easter in Byron Bay. The band were selected from a large number of entrants who performed in heats leading up to the grand final at the Beach Hotel on Good Friday.

The busking competition is held in high regard within the music industry and past winners such as Kim Churchill, The Hussy Hicks and Marshall Okell have all received a career leg up from their involvement in the competition, along with prizes of studio time, and the chance to open the Mojo stage at next year’s festival.

Eddie Boyd and The Phatapillars this week inked a management deal with Rhythm Section, the team behind Claude Hay, Chase The Sun and other Bluesfest faves Marshall Okell and Joanne Shaw Taylor.

The band head into the studio in July to record their debut EP, with plans to release and tour in late 2014.
