Where the Devil drops single number five – ‘REACHING’ – on December 10 through streaming services everywhere.
The Newcastle four-piece has been wowing the press and fans alike, with its own brand of metal that has proven hard to pigeonhole. Mixing groove metal, thrash, nu metal and a healthy dose of melody, singer Ben Pennifold’s intense vocals are the aural glue that help coalesce Where the Devil’s distinctive sound.
Accompanied by another killer lyric video by Federico from Abstract Chaos, Pennifold fills us in on the meaning behind the song: “Quit your reaching back, is a statement aimed at burying the past. There’s no point in dredging the waters and slinging mud when there’s no evidence to back up one’s accusations. It’s about eventually finding happiness through adversity,” he says.
“The core of it comes from the side effects that mental health issues can bring to people and what gets eroded around them …The twisted, distorted, internal, bleak view of one’s world and believing the lies that have been spewed over and over until it becomes someone’s reality – until all the lies unravel.”
Previous single, ‘Descending Death’ and its accompanying fireball-heavy music video scored the band glowing press around the world and the group is keen to capitalise on the growing enthusiasm they’re enjoying – they can’t wait to hit the stage again. 2022 is shaping up to finally be ‘The Year of the Devil’ with some exciting support slots and their first interstate shows already booked.
