This July, prepare to be swept off your feet as Japan’s high-octane garage rock sensation, THE FADEAWAYS, crash onto Australian shores for their explosive debut tour. Since their inception in Tokyo in 2005, Toyozo (vocals and bass), Assman (guitar), and Ozzy (drums) have not just played music; they’ve orchestrated a garage punk rock revolution, deeply infused with the raw energy of ’60s garage punk and ’70s punk trash.
To celebrate the group’s first Australian visit, and to give fans a taste of what’s to come, Cheersquad Records & Tapes will be releasing an exclusive Australian tour LP entitled Pretty Wild, featuring four Fadeaways originals and four covers given the Fadeaways’ patented over-the-top treatment. The covers represent an international garage rock gathering: ‘Levitation’ by Texan legends the Thirteenth Floor Elevators,’You’ve Got Me High’ by fantastically named mid-60s Swedish sensation Science Poption, ‘Get The Picture’ by the original London ravers the Pretty Things, and the perennial garage anthem ‘I Can Only Give You Everything’, originally recorded by Northern Ireland’s (and Van Morrison’s) original wild men Them.
Pretty Wild will be available in limited edition pressings of both black and teal. It will be released on July 4, with pre-orders available now. The first single from the album, the ripping ‘Rack My Mind’, is out today!
THE FADEAWAYS are more than a band; they’re a spectacle of high energy, garage, pop, and punk music brilliance, dressed in super cool matching ’60s Europop-inspired outfits that scream style as loud as their music. Each show is an adrenaline-fueled experience where Toyozo often finds himself leaping onto the kick drum, belting out tunes while perched atop the heaving drum. Ozzy isn’t one to stay behind, melding his drumming with astonishing handstands on his kit. And Assman? He embodies the spirit of Japanese rock, leaping through the air and, in one unforgettable moment, sculling a bottle of Asahi handed to him by an audience member—all without missing a beat on his guitar.
Their journey has seen them become the chosen support for international acts touring Japan and taking their electrifying show across the globe, including extensive tours in the USA, UK, Europe, and parts of Asia. Their discography boasts eight albums and a slew of singles and EPs, celebrated by garage rock aficionados worldwide and released under prestigious international labels such as Screaming Apple Records (Germany), Deadbeat Records (US), Soundflat (Germany), Uncle Jazz (Norway) and many more.
