Throughout 2024, Telenova have been confidently unveiling glimpses into their debut album, Time Is A Flower (August 16th) with singles ‘Teardrop’ and ‘Power’ – deftly combining the bands sample-driven trip-hop and disco influences with their unique brand of cinematic alt-pop.
‘Discothèque Inside My Head’—the new single and video out today – imaginatively rewrites the script sonically and visually ahead of the album’s release, international tour, and support of Norwegian singer-songwriter Girl In Red throughout July.
Jangly electric guitars evolve into a kaleidoscope of psychedelic tinged alt-pop on ‘Discothèque Inside My Head’, setting the stage for some of Telenova’s most vivid songwriting and vocal performances yet. Frontperson Angeline Armstrong explains, “Sometimes all the noise and voices of my inner critic make me feel like I’m spinning around, lost in an overwhelming disco of light and sound inside my head. I’m discovering the key to living with that level of self-doubt and noise is learning to dance along with the discothèque”.
Premiering at the St Kilda Film Festival in June, ‘Discothèque Inside My Head’ is also Telenova’s most ambitious music video yet. Written and directed by Angeline Armstrong and co-directed by Hamish MacGregor, the clip features a series of refreshingly quirky dance sequences by award-winning choreographer Zoee Marsh. “It’s essentially a 6-minute mini-musical”, Angeline says, “starting with an off-beat audition sequence where I’m literally being judged by myself (the inner critic made all too real), the competing dancers in the video represent the voices of comparison and self-doubt in my head…but me and the voices ultimately learn to dance happily ever after.”
Reflective of Telenova’s rapidly growing fandom locally and internationally, Telenova will play their biggest headline tour yet on their ‘Time Is A Flower’ tour with 40 shows spanning cities across Europe, the UK, Australia and New Zealand including Paris, London, Berlin and Oslo and their biggest headline show anywhere in the world, in Athens this October.
