J.Lo is back, again. Was it worth it? Some tracks were.
A.K.A is the “songstress/actress/all-around-attractive mum of two”’s eighth studio album, and it sounds somewhat similar to a mash up of her other seven.
‘Booty’, featuring Pitbull is one of the more fast paced songs. With a distinct South American vibe, it sounds quite similar to the pairs previous collaborations – ‘Live it Up’ in 2013 and ‘On The Floor’ in 2011 – except that this one is specifically and exclusively about bottoms. ‘Emotions’ is the token love ballad of the album. A slow, R’n’B tune with soaring vocals, it’s actually quite a refreshing track amongst the rest of the chaos.
My preferred track would have to be ‘Acting Like That’, a more modern hip-hop sound. J.Lo collaborated with Iggy Azalea to produce this smooth, sassy and slow beat that is reflective of both J.Lo’s maturity and Iggy’s spicy flavour.
Second to that, the title track, ‘A.K.A’ is also one of the more memorable and catchy tunes. It’s also yet another collaborative piece, this time with T.I. The vocals are as repetitive as the electronic beat, making it the perfect dance track, and the easiest to memorise for when it starts the radio rounds.
J.Lo has talent; there is no doubt about that. Unfortunately, A.K.A doesn’t do the pop idol justice, instead making it easy to mock her staling signature sound. I think it’s time for something new, more mature and in line with the aging audiences taste. I have faith in J.Lo, so I’ll be waiting with sequins and feathers at the ready.
