Cambridge Hotel, Newcastle
Wednesday May 29, 2013 :
What the Evermore gig lacked in numbers, it made up for with enthusiasm, with the atmosphere at the Cambridge bright, bubbly and really quite joyful. Evermore clearly know what they are doing – they’re tight, they’re talented, they pass the “toilet test”. Their tunes are robust and crowd pleasing, and best of all they obviously love what they do and had a genuine blast. It was infectious. Fame makers ‘Hey Boys and Girls’ and ‘Running’ were woven into a predominantly new set that featured, amongst others, ‘Follow the Sun’. It was a boppy, riotous set and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Favourite moment (apart from Pete Hume’s suspenders and considerable knack for the stage pout) was Jon referencing a tweet received from a young Newie couple who’d married to ‘Never Let You Go’. The couple were there and it was the third encore number. There wasn’t a dry eye in the house. LOVED IT.
