Fremantle Arts Centre, WA
Saturday September 1, 2018 :
Flight Facilities landed in Fremantle’s Art Centre, playing a sold out show in the 3,400 capacity venue. The weather provided a cold, but clear night in the outdoor venue and the still air provided great sound quality all the way to the back of the grassed tiers.
Supporting Flight Facilities were The Kite String Tangle (TKST), a duo consisting of a drummer and a vocalist who also interchanged between the DJ/keys/loops stations during the performance. His voice was exceptional for the genre and most of the lyrics where easy to pick up on and sing along to, getting everyone up on their feet and dancing along to the catchy dance tracks. TKST turned the large outdoor venue into a small, underground club atmosphere! Judging from their live shows, these musicians are highly skilled in what they do and show off each other’s ability to multitask. Their style of music will remind you of early Daft Punk and were a great warm up for the headliners!
Next up were Flight Facilities, the reason all 3,400 people where there. They started the show off with a bang, stage lights were going off one by one, progressively getting faster as the introductory music did. Finally, after about a minute, Flight Facilities took to the stage dressed in their signature pilots uniforms and caps, illuminated in a blue haze as the smoke machines had been cracked to the max. The 5 huge LED screens on the back of the stage simultaneously lit up and displayed many different features throughout the night, each of which aided the performance in a new way for every song which made the performance not only audibly, but aesthetically pleasing & interesting too.
Flight Facilities brought two vocalists with them who were fantastic to watch, hitting all the notes on every single song, I couldn’t fault them even if I wanted to. Both vocalists love getting the audience involved though clapping, waving and getting everyone to squat down then jump up for the drop in the songs! Flight Facilities put on an awesome performance, with everyone having an absolute brilliant night and dancing along to the duo’s songs.
The sound was spectacularly clear and the only mishap the entire night was the generator dropping out for a few seconds! The visuals made even the fans at the very back of the venue feel like they were in the front row and the fans at the front feel as though they were on stage! The five LED screens really tied everything together, the lights, the music and illumination of the Flight Facilities rig.
As Flight Facilities aren’t the type of act I would usually see, I had no idea what I was in for when I turned up at the venue. I was pleased to find that there were people of all ages & genres rocking out to the music being played! If you’re looking to see a brilliant live act and for a damn good dance, then I would certainly recommend seeing Flight Facilities on tour!
