Brisbane four piece The Jungle Giants took to the stage in Newcastle on Friday night as part of a national tour to promote their debut album, Learn To Exist. Despite looking like a bunch of messy teens you wouldn’t look twice at if you passed on the street, The Jungle Giants pack a serious punch when they get on stage.
Between swigs of wine from a communal bottle that eventually found its way into the hands of audience members, the band played a sweaty set from both from their 2011 EP and debut album release. There is no denying this young band have earned their place in the Australian music scene and plenty of attention and airtime from Triple J – all members of the band are aged 20 or under, but are seriously skilled musicians all the same.
The Jungle Giants were supported by Brisbane’s The Creases as well as Melbourne band Northeast Party House, both of whom like The Jungle Giants, had no trouble getting the audience dancing along with them.
My highlight? Wondering not if, but when gorgeous guitarist, Cesira, will get her long hair caught in those Fender strings – you’ll just have to have a look at the photos to see what I mean!
