[Live Review] MELISSA ETHERIDGE + SHERYL CROW (Sydney)

ICC Theatre, Sydney
Saturday April 7, 2018 :

The crowd was served up a treat on Saturday night with both Sheryl Crow and Melissa Etheridge at the ICC Sydney Theatre in Darling Harbour.

Opening the night Sheryl had the crowd in their happy place, with the laid back groove and the sweet sounds of her voice. Playing all her hits it’s impossible to pick out a crowd favourite. Showing her gifted musical talent, Sheryl moved between her guitar, bass, harmonica and playing keys. Accompanied by a 6 piece band, Sheryl opened her set with ‘Everyday Is a Winding Road’ and the crowd were moving with the beat, followed with ‘A Change Would Do You Good’ and ‘All I Wanna Do’ to get everyone into the mood. Sheryl interacted with the crowd throughout every song and the atmosphere was buzzing. As she moved through her set, she continued with her hits singing ‘If it Makes You Happy’, ‘Soak Up the Sun’ and ‘Midnight Rider’ accompanied by Melissa Etheridge.

With a short interval, the crowd stood to their feet with Melissa’s opening as she was silhouetted sitting on the drums. This part of the show really stepped up the atmosphere and the energy in the room, with her husky voice and her energy the crowd were hooked. ‘Similar Features’ had the crowd singing. ‘Don’t You Need’ really highlighted Melissa’s skills as a guitarist, moving from end to end of the stage, the whole crowd was seen and an involved part of her show. The crowd kept singing throughout every song, and she was such a storyteller. ‘Indiana’ moved the crowd and ‘Come To My Window’ got everyone up standing. Security tried to get everyone to sit back down but with Melissa’s encouragement the front section of the ICC was now full. Just like Sheryl, Melissa moved between instruments all night, showing how much of a remarkably skilled musician she is.

The big song of the night came towards the end of the show as Melissa busted out with ‘Bring Me Some Water’, everyone was dancing and singing along and she stole the night.
