Promoting her latest body of work, Eternal Return released late last year, Blasko has stepped out of the darkness of her previous albums. Having previously dipped her toe into the dance genre, she has written probably her most personal songs to date.
Dressed in black, an oversized tuxedo jacket, shiny tights and sequinned gloves, Blasko punched out retro-electronic numbers from her self confessed ‘love album’. The stage had a feel of a dark and dirty underground night-club with it’s smoky atmospheric lit setting. These new tracks see Sarah Blasko shimmy and strut to the language of love as if she were playing them out in her own living room.
Her trademark breathy wholesome vocals have never sounded better though apologising to any tap dancers in the crowd as she admitted to trampling on their art tonight. Highlights included ‘Say What You Want’, ‘I’d Be Lost’ and ‘Only One.’ A stripped back rendition of ‘Here’ brought the house down as Blasko’s vocals soared through the twin set of Vectors front of stage. The evening’s encore welcomed Aaron Manhattan, video star of ‘I Wanna Be Your Man’ to the stage as he lip synced his way through the first chorus before Sarah returned to the stage announcing that she’d been totally upstaged and the duo synchronised their dance moves. A rousing performance of ‘I Awake’ closed the set, of which was well and truly a triumphant (eternal) return Sarah.
