[Live Review] STICKY FINGERS

Sticky Fingers 1

Saturday April 23, 2016 :

Sticky fingers spent the beginning of this year recording their new album in Thailand; a working holiday to recover from an immense tour off the back of their album Land Of Pleasure. This short break did nothing to diminish the band’s unruly nature which was evident from the moment they walked on stage. With a deafening chant of STICKY!, the band clearly revelled in the scene of chaos which is a Sticky Fingers show.

The band opened with the title song of Land Of Pleasure. This hit built the already excited crowd into a frenzy, with people being pulled over the barriers by security and dozens of girls on shoulders. They then moved straight onto a new unreleased song which we can only assume will feature on the upcoming album allowing the crowd a small rest as the energy lessened. This respite was short lived though as the band then broke into their iconic, eternally upbeat hit ‘Gold Snafu’. The sugary hook seemed to make the entire room dance. No one was dancing more however, than keyboardist Freddy Crabs. In his tight shorts, no shirt and moustache, one couldn’t help but be reminded of the late great Freddy Mercury.

Before playing their final song, front man Dylan Frost made a passionate plea to Brisbane, not to adopt the lock out laws which have ravaged the night life, and undoubtably the live music scene of Sydney. He made this plea, the way only Dylan can, peppered with profanities and with absolute conviction.

This was the second last show in Australia before Sticky Fingers embark on a mammoth, 22 show tour of North America. Taking their equally rowdy friends (and support act) Bootleg Rascals, the band is clearly living the quintessential rock n roll life and this will undoubtedly be a huge year for the band.
