Any fan of the R&B genre, or even the most casual listener of commercial radio for that matter, would be hard pressed to not know, ‘No Diggity’ and ‘This Is How Do It’ both of which have been voted by many polls as two of the most recognisable R&B anthems of all time.
These are the anthems which propelled both Blackstreet and Montell Jordan (respectively) into the stratosphere with both tracks remaining as mainstays on radio, across dance floors, in advertising, tv and movie placements, and in more recent times, enjoying unbelievable virality across social media platforms.
The Grammy Winning Blackstreet (also boasting the hits ‘Don’t Leave Me’, ‘Before I Let You Go’, ‘Baby Be Mine’ and more) is one of the most celebrated R&B acts of all time. Having come together in 1991 and then releasing their breakout self-titled debut album in 1994 which proved to be the perfect segue-way from the new jack swing era into modern R&B, the group set the tone for contemporary R&B as we know it.
Whilst only boasting four albums, the group disbanded in the early 2000’s only to come together again in 2015 and have been a touring force ever since with shows the world over and a brand-new album now in the can ready for the world to hear in 2024.
Featuring the original voices who featured on their most successful releases, their debut album and Another Level (1996) and consisting of band founder: Chauncey Black together with Levi Little, & Eric Williams, the group was last in Australia in 2016 and 2018 performing shortened festival sets but now return for their first headline tour since 2015. Fans can expect the true and full Blackstreet experience when they return armed with a complete set encompassing their whole career, the hits, the anthems, the deep cuts & more.
Montell Jordan burst onto the scene in 1995 and quickly established himself as a bona fide hit maker with both his own material and songs written for the likes of Sisqo, Whitney Houston and Deborah Cox. Best known for his anthem ‘This Is How We Do It’, Montell also boasts a catalogue of hits including ‘Somethin’ 4 Da Honeyz’, ‘I Like’, ‘Let’s Ride’ and many more. He returns to Australia for the first time since 2016.
To round out a night of killer R&B hits and anthems, Melbourne vocal quartet CDB (‘Hook Me Up’, ‘Lets Groove’) join the bill celebrating their 30th anniversary together with the reunion of ‘90s Sydney vocal quartet Kulcha (‘Shaka Jam’, ‘Fly Girl’) who are also celebrating their milestone 30th anniversary.
This is a show not to be missed by any self-respecting R&B fan. No diggity, no doubt!
