[News] BRITISH INDIA FOUNDING MEMBER NIC WILSON ANNOUNCES DEPARTURE + BAND ANNOUNCE 24-DATE ‘NIC THE POET’ NATIONAL TOUR

Over the course of an impressive career that spans over a decade, Melbourne band British India have released six studio albums, earned a gold record, scored eight entries into the Hottest 100, supported the Rolling Stones and headlined over 700 shows. One of the four people who have been there every step of the way is guitarist and founding member Nic Wilson, who today announces his departure from British India.

British India is something we started as snotty nosed high school kid that became something much bigger and more important to people than we could have ever expected. The three lads in the band were the three best men at my wedding and the three best men to play a part in in my life.

We decided on everything together as children to adults and proved that democracy can prevail when done right. I was lucky to share every terrible Tarago road trip with them laughing hysterically as the road disappeared behind us. I was lucky to share the stage at first playing to nobody and then playing to thousands.

And I was lucky to live out the dream a 12-year-old version of myself pined for daily. To play music to people who cared. For that – I thank you. But time moves on and I have other things I want to try my hand at and I am ready to see what else I can do.

Thank you for the memories everybody. Rock n Roll I gave you the best years of my life.” – Nic Wilson

In celebration of everything Nic has brought to the band and its fans, British India will hit the road one last time with their original line-up for the massive, 24-date ‘Nic The Poet Tour’. They’ll visit both metro and regional cities from November 2018 through to January 2019.

British India are currently in the studio working on their seventh full-length album. It’s been a year since the release of their latest, Forgetting The Future, which has been praised for its innovative direction and features the singles, ‘Precious’, ‘Midnight Homie’ and ‘My Love’. It debuted at #12 on the ARIA Album Chart and led the band to sign its first worldwide licensing deal with NYC indie-label AntiFragile.

Forming at Melbourne’s St Bede’s College in 2007, British India burst onto the scene with their debut LP Guillotine, which won them the AIR Award for Best New Group. Their second album Thieves was released within 12 months, debuting at #5 on the ARIA Chart and scoring three nominations at the ARIA Awards. By the end of 2008, British India had become one of most renowned young rock bands in the country. In 2010, they released Avalanche – another Top 10 debut.

After signing to Liberation Records and Mushroom Music Publishing in 2012, they released their two most successful albums to date; Controller boasts an ARIA #5 debut and features the Gold-accredited ‘I Can Make You Love Me’, while Nothing Touches Me is home to hits like ‘Suddenly’ and ‘Wrong Direction’, which have amassed over 5.5 million online streams.

British India are one of the hardest working bands in the country and they’re not about to slow down now. While we eagerly await their next turn, don’t miss the epic farewell party that is the ‘Nic The Poet Tour’. We’ll miss you Nic, all the best.
