Acclaimed Adelaide singer-songwriter Emily Davis, today announced an East Coast tour in support of her third studio album, You, Me and the Velvet Sea. Davis has also released the official video for the first single from the album, ‘Hold On’.
“The video for ‘Hold On’ symbolises the transformative power of a really deep love. One character two faces, my oceanic doppelgänger and me,” Davis explains. “It shows how hope and belief in love can transform you into a more divine version of yourself. It’s always lingering under the surface but when a love this big comes into your life you transform.”
‘Hold On’ was filmed in Newcastle whilst Davis was last on tour. Tom Blake of Gravity Films shot it in two hours at Saw Tooth Studios.
Davis’ tour will begin in Adelaide with a hometown show on April 14 to launch the album at Jive. This will be followed up by live show dates in mid-May in Melbourne and Newcastle.
“I’m so excited to get on the road with my all-star band of lady legends,” says Davis. “We’ve not toured as a full band before so we are stoked to share the experience together. I expect a lot of love, big shows with loads of energy, and a lot of laughing!”
Hosting ten tracks elegantly carved by an insightful songwriter whose music walks the line between folk and rock, You, Me and the Velvet Sea sees the seasoned musician depart from her renowned gentle pop-folk style of albums past for a stronger, rockier feel. Still housing Davis’ cinematic lyrics, You, Me and the Velvet Sea creates a luscious and surreal world for the listener, as each song explores human connection, and her enduring belief in the transformative power of love in all of its incarnations.
Davis released her debut pop-folk release Moving in Slow Motion, in 2007 produced by ARIA Award winner Monique Brumby. The album received rave reviews and was on rotation on NOVA, Triple J, and ABC National. Her sophomore release Undone, a darker alt-country record was released in 2011 to similar critical acclaim.
Davis has toured extensively across Australia and performed at festivals WOMADelaide, Peats Ridge, Fleurieu Folk and Semaphore Music Festival. She has supported artists such as CW Stoneking, Clare Bowditch, The Audreys and Kate Miller-Heidke Renee Geyer, Vanessa Amarossi, James Reyne, and Richard Clapton in some of Australia’s finest venues.
Davis will launch You, Me and the Velvet Sea at Jive, Adelaide on April 14 before setting out on a tour of Australia’s East Coast.
