FOTSUNners, we have a problem… After last year’s Festival of the Sun sold out in just one week (a FOTSUN record), you’ll need to get the jets on if you’re keen for tickets to FOTSUN’s 14th year!
Welcome to the Outer Space Edition of FOTSUN. In 2017, the iconic Port Macquarie event is ready to take you to the final frontier of festival fun from December 7 – 9. Brace yourself for takeoff, people – here’s this year’s earth-trembling lineup:
Meg Mac, Ball Park Music, The Preatures, Horrorshow
Holy Holy, Kim Churchill, Bad//Dreems, Sampa the Great
The Bennies, Ali Barter, Ivan Ooze, The Cactus Channel
Dear Seattle, Press Club, Maddy Jane, Betty and Oswald
WHARVES, Sons of Jaguar, SCABZ
and one lucky triple j Unearthed winner!
FOTSUN Festival Director and aspiring astronaut Simon Luke said: “After such positive feedback on last year’s larger lineup and bigger side stage artists, we’ve continued to build FOTSUN in 2017 and are looking toward a bright future. We’re really proud of the fact the FOTSUN experience is so unique that we attract lots of artists and industry who simply attend to hang out and catch up, including many past performers, who are always welcome!”
For those sun-lovin’ space cadets who want prime position, FOTSUN is opening the Breakwall Holiday Park doors on Thursday, December 7 at 2PM for Wabi Sabi. Pro tip: don’t sweat if you’re lacking chic alien accessories, since you can just make them at Wabi Sabi’s many art workshops!
Also on Thursday: Silent Comedy… because in space, no one can hear you laugh; local legend (some reckon he fell from Mars) Sigh Luxton will be working on his out of this world street art; and if you’re hungry but don’t want Space Food Sticks, heaps of food trucks will be about (vego and vegan options included).
Come Friday, make sure you eat your bacon, eggs, and tofu early and that the tinnies have been left to chill overnight, because bands begin at noon – and they’ll be on till 10PM!
Tickets for FOTSUN 2017 go on sale August 31 at 10AM (no early bird sales and no discounts for NASA employees). There are only 3,000 of these tickets available and they’re hotter than a meteor re-entering Earth’s atmosphere, so get around some reliable Wi-Fi on August 31! GA 2 and 3 Night tickets (including free camping) start at $232 and $249, respectively (just add $10 per night for a car pass).
Returning in 2017 is the stellar accom option of Tent City, a VIP camping area that’s super-close to the action. A variety of ticketing packages are available and full details can be found on fotsun.com.
FOTSUN will again be offering a free shuttle bus service for FOTSUNners who live within a 10km radius of the festival grounds and aren’t staying on-site. If you live on Venus, we’re happy to give you a ride, but you’ll need to pay for fuel.
FOTSUN is NSW’s longest-running BYO festival and is an 18+ event. Families are definitely welcome, though, and children under 12 receive free entry when accompanied by an adult.
