Australian producer, songwriter and singer George Maple releases her long-awaited debut record Lover, which has already received rave early reviews.
The 20 track opus Lover is a “series of intimate events”, sound-tracking a fierce yet fractured existence, written over two years and various places across the globe and featuring rapidly ascendant rappers GoldLink and Rome Fortune. The record pays homage to the muddled beauty and vulnerability of human intimacy in fractured times. It’s a journey that’s seen George Maple play many roles, from femme fatale to disco diva to fierce heroine, and endure many scars. It’s the intersection of Maple’s fantasy and reality, presenting a record which amplifies her own observations and experiences of human relations across several years.
The album can in part be charted by a series of standout singles which help to visually and sonically map out the story of the record. Maple has reveled in libertine abandon, celebrating freedom and loss of inhibitions and channeling the spirit of Donna Summer as club queen supreme in ‘Kryptonite’. She co- starred alongside male supermodel Jordan Barrett in the video for ‘Lover’, struggled in chains in spectacular slow motion with What So Not and Rome Fortune in ‘Buried’ and dominated male villains, driving black 80s corvettes in the Goldlink featuring, viral hit ‘Sticks and Horses’. The euphoric pop of recent hit single ‘Hero’ saw Maple represent an art piece in a revolving installation, further showcasing the many facets to her artistry.
Maple will support the album with tour dates across the globe. Hot off the heels of Maple’s recent support slot at 6lack’s Australian tour, she will also support Lorde on the Australian leg of her epic Melodrama World Tour in November, and follow this up with the headline Lover album tour in February 2018. Presented by BBE and triple j, George Maple will take her striking, sultry and hypnotising live show to Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney, Adelaide and Perth. She will be performing all the hits from her triple j feature album, including favourites ‘Sticks and Horses’, ‘Kryptonite’, ‘Hero’, and ‘Lover’.
