The announcement arrives ahead of the band’s highly anticipated fourth studio album, I Love You So F***ing Much. Due out on July 19 2024, ILYSFM is an expansive record about love in all its shapes and forms, befit with retro-futuristic production that travels in and out of the “shapelessness of love”. On Wednesday 20 November, the band land in Melbourne for a performance at Sidney Myer Music Bowl, before heading to Brisbane’s Riverstage on Friday 22 November. The following week, the band head to Sydney’s monumental sails for an unmissable performance on the Sydney Opera House Forecourt on Tuesday 26 November.
Frontman Dave Bayley shared: “Australia. We love you so f***ing much. When we first came to tour over there, we only had like four songs. So we played them twice. And you forgave us. And then you gave us our first ever hottest 100 success with Gooey. And then you embraced Heat Waves so hard I tattooed the shape of Australia on my arse cheek. It is my only tattoo. I forget it’s there sometimes and it startles me when I get out of my bubble bath. But it makes me v happy. And I feel the same announcing this new Australian tour. The same happiness I feel when looking at my arse in the mirror. See you soon.”
Earlier this year, Glass Animals announced a mammoth 44 date tour, taking the four-piece band across North America, Europe and UK, kicking off in the USA next month, and concluding at London’s 20,000-capacity The O2 Arena on 7 November. But Glass Animals wanted super fans to hear the record for the first time live, and most recently embarked on a global pop-up tour, playing a surprise show at Sydney’s Liberty Hall – an immediate sell-out – alongside locations in Mexico, Indonesia and California for an intimate taster of the record to come.
I Love You So F***ing Much is the follow-up to 2020’s critically revered Gold ARIA Accredited Dreamland, which sold over 12M copies globally and gave life to ‘Heat Waves’, the record-breaking song that became the biggest international hit from a British band in almost 30 years and is now x19 Platinum ARIA Accredited. It was the first song to reach #1 with a single writer and producer since Pharrell’s ‘Happy’ and led to the pop world’s biggest acts, including Florence Welch, all wanting to work with band member Dave. Additionally, it became the first song by a British band since the Spice Girls’ ‘Wannabe’ in 1995, to claim #1 for 5 consecutive weeks in the Billboard 100.
The four-piece were also crowned triple j’s Hottest 100 winner, with ‘Heat Waves’ topping the Australian singles chart for six consecutive weeks and #1 on the ARIA Top 100 Singles for the year of 2021. It has achieved over 44B global streams and become the first British band to achieve #1 in the Spotify global chart, whilst holding space in the Billboard Hot 100 for longer than The Weeknd’s ‘Blinding Lights’.
Now as promised, the band set the stage for fans to witness their live show, as one of the biggest British contemporary bands on their upcoming Australian tour.
