After a stellar introduction with their debut cut ‘Only Heart’, Sydney-based indie-pop quartet, High Violet have just unveiled the follow up single ‘Give In’, produced and engineered by Woody Annison (Children Collide, The Living End and Flyying Colours) and assisted by Pluto Jonze at his home studio in Redfern, NSW.
Taking cues from the likes of The Dandy Warhols, Best Coast and Metric; the new single shines a light on the group’s creative development since their debut, exploring elements of dream-pop, garage-rock and psychedelia.
Front-woman, Emily Smart, explains the message behind ‘Give In’ – “We wrote this song collectively as a cathartic release of frustrations. Two themes that remained consistent for us were temptation and addiction to love; something we’re all beset by. Addiction is like quicksand, the more you struggle, the tighter it grips and the less chance you have of breaking free. Sometimes it just feels easier to give in.”
To coincide with the release, the band will launch ‘Give In’ at Rare Finds #19 with support from local crowd favourite, Billy Fox and recent triple j Unearthed, Splendour In The Grass competition winners PLTS – both of whom will also be celebrating the release of their new singles.
High Violet will reveal an accompanying music video for ‘Give In’ within the coming weeks.
