Improvised music trailblazers and one of Australia’s great cult bands, The Necks, return to home soil following a sold out UK/Europe tour for a string of dates in February and March 2024. Renowned for creating immersive, hypnotic concert experiences, Chris Abrahams (piano), Lloyd Swanton (bass) and Tony Buck (drums/percussion) slowly conjure luminous soundscapes over the course of their live performances that leave audiences mesmerised.

Before stepping on stage, nothing is planned or discussed between the trio. They walk on and they start playing. The Necks’ commitment to the simple concept of truly “letting the music take care of itself” is at the core of their unique sound and their ability to create exciting, engrossing music for themselves and their audiences for more than 30 years. No two Necks concerts are ever the same.
“This is The Necks, one of the world’s most intoxicating cult bands, and this is what they have done at every single gig in their career: make epic, unrepeatable new music completely from scratch.” MOJO magazine
From humble beginnings in 1987 as a private jamming project, The Necks now play packed concerts around the globe and count Brian Eno and Nick Cave among their legions of fans. They have released 21 albums, including the ARIA-nominated soundtrack to the acclaimed Australian film The Boys. Their latest release Travel (released in Feb 2023) features four 20-minute tracks and has been hailed by critics as one of their finest with Uncut magazine describing it as ‘…like gazing out of the window on a marathon flight crossing continents, each vista imperceptibly or abruptly giving way to the next… Travel is well named.’
The Necks are currently on tour in the UK and Europe playing sold-out concerts in London (with more UK shows added), Netherlands, Poland and Türkiye with more European dates to follow.
“We’re just past the halfway mark on our current Europe tour and it’s really been quite phenomenal. The warmth and appreciation we’ve received from audiences at every show has been humbling and gratifying to say the least, and we thank everyone for coming out to see us in such numbers after four long years away from Europe,” said The Necks.
