Kate Miller-Heidke announces the CATCHING DIAMONDS national regional tour, as well as the release of ‘True North’ by Max McKenna, the first single from her brand new musical comedy Bananaland.
Bananaland is a celebration of the glorious absurdity of following an impossible dream, featuring a knockout score by Kate Miller-Heidke and her collaborator Keir Nuttall – the award-winning song writing team behind Muriel’s Wedding The Musical and multiple platinum selling albums. It makes its world premiere on 16 September, at QPAC for Brisbane Festival.
And the song ‘True North’ is about the crazy optimism you need to pursue a career in the arts. The song reflects Kate and Keir’s own experiences in pursuing their dreams. Kate says, “The character of Ruby contains a lot of Keir, and his unwavering commitment – including tattoos – to a series of sadly unsuccessful bands. But I think many artists could perhaps relate to the lyric “Someone has to change the world. Why not us?” To be an artist requires you to imagine a world that doesn’t yet exist.”
‘True North’ features Max McKenna in the lead role of Ruby Semblance, joined by Kate Miller-Heidke and the cast of the show in an incredible chorus of backing vocals. Kate says, “Max is in possession of one of the most beautiful voices I’ve ever heard. On stage Max is hilarious, radiant, heartbreaking… just a superstar. To write for their voice is a privilege!”
And then, after long months locked away writing, Kate herself is hitting the road to play in dozens of beautiful theatres around Australia on the CATCHING DIAMONDS TOUR.
Kate will be playing her greatest hits and most beloved pop songs, as well as performing tracks from her original musicals, some unexpected covers, taking requests, and telling stories from across her varied career. Excitingly, she’ll also be debuting new material from her forthcoming 6th studio album, which will dive deep into the genre of ‘gothic folk’. This is a special opportunity to see Kate in intimate, stripped-back mode.
Kate says of the upcoming tour, “Playing live has always been at the heart of what I do – I live for it. I can’t wait to get back to some places I haven’t been in AGES, and some I’ve never been to, and connect with my amazing audiences across Australia. Regional crowds are some of the greatest people to play for!”
Like all Kate Miller-Heidke shows, the CATCHING DIAMONDS TOUR will be a celebration of voice, storytelling, emotion, humour, and music that transports and transcends. Of discovering anew each night the transformative connection between the performer and the audience. Catch Kate Miller-Heidke at a town near you.
Special guest GEORGIA MOONEY will be joining Kate at all shows.
