King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard are “one of the most talked-about bands in rock” (Wall Street Journal), and for good reason. In 2022 alone, they released six acclaimed albums and a full-length concert film, played sold-out shows all across the world, including three sold-out Red Rocks Amphitheatre performances, and hosted bootlegger record fairs. And still, their fans are insatiable.
They now present a new video for ‘Astroturf’ – a track taken from 2022 album Changes. The album was originally conceived in 2017, and is a concept album that is “built around this one chord progression – every track is like a variation on a theme,” says Stu Mackenzie. ‘Astroturf’ is one of those creations, a 70s-tinged, soft-pop earworm. The accompanying video was filmed in the band’s Australian studio. The band adds: “We filmed this live then overdubbed the fuck over it. Recording is fun.”
King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard will play a *sold out* Northcote Theatre in Melbourne next month (Feb 25), before taking their raucous and deeply exploratory live show across Europe in March. They’ll return to the US in June to play venues such as Red Rocks (3x shows again), and a marathon 3-hour show at Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles.
