Grammy-nominated UK singer-songwriter Mahalia will return to Australia this April and May for a run of national headline shows. With 12 years of artistry and music-making under her belt, Mahalia continues to wow her audiences and gain global attention for her hits and collaborations with some of music’s biggest names, including Stormzy, Burna Boy, Little Simz, JoJo, Kojey Radical and more. Through her music, she effortlessly weaves soul, sleek 70s and contemporary R&B in one enchanting concoction.
From her breakout year in 2019, releasing her debut album Love and Compromise which quickly became a critically acclaimed introduction, Mahalia has gone on to receive numerous accolades including a Grammy nomination for Best R&B Performance, a Brit Award nomination for Female Solo Artist, an Ivor Novello nomination, along with last year winning two MOBO Awards for Best R&B/Soul Act.
Mahalia’s latest studio album IRL, featuring ‘Terms and Conditions’, which was co-written and produced by fellow songstress Raye and performed live on Later… with Jools Holland, is a departure from previous releases. Through some of her most honest songwriting to date, Mahalia keeps focus firmly on her powerhouse vocals with fewer features and collaborations; proving to herself and to the world that she is a superstar.
Founding ‘Mahalia Presents’ a bi-monthly initiative, Mahalia provides a platform to emerging R&B artists, something she is incredibly passionate about. Outside creating music, she is a voice for her community, last year taking on the role of ambassador for Dr Martens Tough As You mentor program alongside Kojey Radical, which aims to improve creative opportunities for under-represented emerging artists.
2023 was Mahalia’s biggest year yet, embarking on a huge sold-out UK and European tour, collaborating with legendary US pop/R&B superstar JoJo on latest single ‘Cheat’ and releasing IRL – her second and most creatively-freeing project to date. With a live show that’s been touted as “powerful, bold and raw both vocally and emotionally.” (Epigram) and a “glittering gem” (NME) of an album under belt, watch this space as Mahalia’s star continues to rise this year.
As she lands down under for her biggest ever Australian shows, Mahalia’s intoxicating live presence will be sure to wow her adoring fans. Taking her audience on a journey, she will bring her hits including ‘What You Did’ (feat. Ella Mai), ‘Simmer’ (feat. Burna Boy) and ‘I Wish I Missed My Ex’ as well as tracks from IRL to the stage In Real Life on her anticipated return.
