[News] MARLON WILLIAMS TOURING AUSTRALIA IN MAY 2018 IN CELEBRATION OF NEW ALBUM ‘MAKE WAY FOR LOVE’

Marlon Williams’ new album Make Way For Love has entered the charts this week at number 1 on the NZ charts and number 8 on the Australian charts.
With his album tour currently winding its way through Europe, UK and the US before making its way to Melbourne in May, overwhelming demand has seen him announce a second show at the Forum in Melbourne, on May 22.

One of New Zealand’s most arresting songwriters and performers Marlon Williams has announced an Australian national tour in May 2018. Williams will perform across Australia in celebration of his just-announced second album Make Way For Love, due for release on February 16, 2018 via Caroline Australia.

“His voice soars to the heavens and plucks at the heartstrings” – The Australian

“Williams is a singular artist who mimics none of his heroes, and has forged his own musical path” – New Zealand Herald

Having won over fans with songs such as ‘Dark Child’, ‘Strange Things’, ‘Hello Miss Lonesome’ and recent single ‘Vampire Again’, the Lyttelton, NZ-raised singer (and part-time resident of Melbourne) is fast racing towards the top of his game.

Recorded with Grammy-winning producer Noah Georgeson (Joanna Newsom, The Strokes) and backing band The Yarra Benders in North California’s Panoramic Studios after weeks of pre-production in Lyttelton with regular collaborator Ben Edwards, Make Way For Love features 11 tracks of new musical terrain: cinematic strings, reverb, rollicking guitar and at least one quiet piano ballad, in what can only be described as a thoroughly original, revealing break-up record.

The album is led by ‘Nobody Gets What They Want Anymore’, a duet with ex-girlfriend Aldous Harding. Delicate and bold, tender and searing, it’s a mightily personal new step for Williams.

Off the back of the singer’s incredible, self-titled 2015 solo debut, accolades immediately followed; said Rolling Stone Australia in their four star review, “Williams picks his marks and hits them”. Williams won Best Male and Breakthrough Artist at the 2015 New Zealand Music Awards, also earning nominations for Best Blues & Roots Album at Australia’s ARIA Awards, plus a nomination for the Australian Music Prize.

Now, after two solid years of touring – including stints on the road supporting Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, festivals including Latitude, Austin City Limits, Newport Folk Festival and Pickathon – Williams makes his long-awaited return.

Joining Williams at all shows is Toronto singer/songwriter Tamara Lindeman and band, aka The Weather Station. Their acclaimed self-titled fourth album is out now, earning praise from the likes of The Guardian, Pitchfork, NPR Music, Uncut, and MOJO and more. Says Pitchfork, “A singer with an unmistakable & communicative voice, able to convey hope and hurt with equal clarity.”
