After an eight month spell off the road to spend time with his young son, Australian Blues and Roots star Owen Campbell is coming back with a new release, new songs and a fresh approach.
Known for controversial Australian TV appearances and through constant touring and busking around the World, Owen’s last three albums have been big budget productions, working in the US with the likes of Devon Allman amongst others. They have netted Owen continuous top 10 iTunes chart positions over the last 6 years, serving him well. Even as this is written Owen currently has the #2, #3 and #4 album on the Australian iTunes Charts (Blues). It is however, time for a change and an opportunity for the artist to get back to his roots and a more natural song-writing process.
“My last 2 albums were very stressful experiences, expensive endeavours with big shot producers. I needed to get back to the enjoyable roots of it all. So with the help of some great musical partners and my brother (Engineer John Campbell), we embarked on a simpler approach, recording on my friends farm/studio outside Cootamundra, “Uplands”. It’s been a raw and rocking experiment with a psychedelic twist.”
The current two-part tour sees Owen Campbell touch base with fans in NSW and the ACT, Owen’s home-base states, over the next few months along with a festival appearance at the Wollombi Music Festival late September. New material will be road-tested with a new album and national tour planned for early 2019. The Blues and Roots star is also venturing out for Parlour in the upcoming months, doing a short run of house parties around the country.
Earlier this year, the Canberra-based musician attended an Ayahuasca retreat for the first time, which through the power of nature, cured a few of his demons and drove home a will to get back on the road and write new material.
“What also spurred me back to the music was an ayahuasca retreat I did in early 2018. It reminded me of the medicinal value of music. The healing power of it for myself and those who care to listen. That was a powerful and peaceful push for me. I am a medicine man. And its time to bring it back, in my own way.”
Catch Owen Campbell touring new material all through NSW and the ACT this September through December in Part 1 and 2 of the Take Your Medicine Tour. Stay tuned for the new album release in 2019.
