As one of Australia’s most revered songwriters, The Screaming Jets founding member and bassist Paul Woseen has penned songs that have become part of the nation’s psyche over the past two decades. Creating hit tracks such as ‘Helping Hand’ and ‘October Grey’, Paul is easily recognised by his sweet basslines and his incredible harmonies. Now, for the first time, this talented musician has stepped away from his key role in The Screaming Jets to release his debut solo album – Bombido – an offering that is guaranteed to delight all music fans.
Celebrating the release of Bombido, Paul is heading out on a two-month long acoustic tour. The acoustic long-player that not only features a couple of new tracks that aptly demonstrate Paul Woseen’s talent as a songwriter, but also some classic reworked versions of The Screaming Jets’ songs penned by Paul and given a new interpretation for this album.
Taking the album out of the road, Paul really wanted that to imitate the intimate experience of the album, just a raw acoustic offering that gave audiences a real insight into the songs. “I’m going to approach the shows like I pitch songs to the band, a little rave about it… two, three, four and I’m in…. try and sing my nuts off and hopefully be as open and honest as I can. I’m always curious to hear the original spin of a song, and I’m sure others are too.”
Despite this being an acoustic tour, it by no way means that the shows are a laid-back affair. Paul channels that full rock persona he is well-known for when he takes to the stage, and plays the same as he would in a band environment. “When I am in the song, I can hear the other guys anyway, in my head,” he says. “I can hear that going on and I am playing like that. It is not a laid back acoustic experience, I am standing up there sweating, smashing the s**t out of the guitar, thinking I’ve got the band behind me.”
Bombido, which was released late last year, has already received rave reviews. The 11-track album features some really beautiful interpretations of Jets’ classics, such as the 1994 APRA Song of the Year nominee ‘Helping Hand’, and fan favourites ‘Friend of Mine’ and ‘October Grey’. There are also some stunning new tracks, such as ‘Last Dream Falls’ and ‘Live to Ride’, which were hand-picked from a swag of new songs Paul has been writing over the past 12-months.
Don’t miss these special run of shows celebrating Bombido, as Paul Woseen shares his songs ‘in the raw’.
