Sahara Beck releases ‘Spinning Time’, the second single to be lifted off her forthcoming album titled PANACEA which is set to be released April 22 via SUGARRUSH Music & Create/Control.
Sahara says of the track “’Spinning Time’ is about people who have told a story so many times that the meaning and content of the whole story have changed already by the 5th telling, therefore changing history based on your own perspective. To me watching this felt like I was watching him change history before my eyes. To the point where I don’t even think that he knew the original story anymore because he had convinced himself that it happened in so many different ways. Spinning tIme = Changing history.”
Sahara Beck, the 19 year old from the Sunshine Coast, fresh off the back of performing, not one but two incredible sets at Bluesfest 2016 (her second appearance at the festival in recent years) has also just won big at the Queensland Music Awards, taking out Folk Singer/Songwriter category for her song ‘Mother Mother’ which was also nominated for Song Of The Year.
Sahara Beck’s second album PANACEA was built around a week long session at the legendary 301 Byron Bay studios – just days before it closed for good – the record may be full of experimentation, but it never strays from the simple formula of wonderful songs performed with genuine passion. Working with long time collaborator and engineer Jeff Lovejoy, Sahara and her band had one of those recording experiences most artists dream about. Everything just clicked with her ambitious arrangements and wildly diverse influences – from jazz and soul to glitchy beats – gelling together into something that feels completely new.
For all its diversity and imagination, PANACEA is a collection of songs connected by an unmistakable honesty and identity, led by first track ‘Here It Comes’ of which peaked at #5 on the triple j unearthed chart plus has tastemakers such as website Howl & Echoes declaring “a positively stomping number full of twangy guitars and big percussion, Beck’s vocals are effortlessly cool over the top of it all. And that crescendo, by God it is mammoth.” As well as Music Feeds stating “A huge part of this is the personal charm she manages to put into every song, and her latest single ‘Here It Comes’ is no exception. A sultry yet catchy little tune, there are no histrionics here, just effortless cool and a hint of a playfulness.”
Sahara has announced a run of east coast headline shows to celebrate the release of PANACEA. The album tour kicks off Thursday the 12th of May at The Gasometer Hotel in Melbourne and takes in ten dates across Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland including The Big Pineapple Festival.
