In a Sydney Opera House exclusive, Grammy Award-winning R&B singer-songwriter, producer and artist Solange Knowles will perform her euphoric album When I Get Home for the first time in Australia this January 27, 28, 30 and 31.
The cultural auteur known for activating unique architectural spaces with her multi-disciplinary art practice will make her highly-anticipated return to the Concert Hall nearly 18 months after her sold-out takeover at Vivid LIVE 2018. For four nights only, Solange will bring her temple back to the Opera House, showcasing a brand-new 360° visual set and performing her transfixing album When I Get Home alongside fan-favourites, accompanied by a live band and sublime dancers.
The work of a true polymath, this fourth studio album is both a musical and spiritual evolution from the socially-urgent third album A Seat at the Table (2016). With this latest record Solange bares her soul once more, exploring her sense of identity through cultural roots and joyful self-expression. At its core the self-produced album is a therapeutic tribute to her hometown Houston, Texas and is accompanied by a 33-minute performance art film directed and edited by the singer which premiered globally earlier this year.
When I Get Home is a collaborative album and includes productions with an incredible circle of artists including Abra, Cassie, Gucci Mane and Sydney Opera House alumni Panda Bear, Steve Lacy, and Tyler, The Creator. Intermixing jazz, R&B, trap, funk and chopped and screwed hip-hop music – a genre originating from Houston – the album “is a reminder that Solange is an R&B frontrunner in her own right. It’s a celebration of women, black culture and – above all – music.” (NME).
Like her Vivid LIVE 2018 performances, Solange’s only Australian shows in 2020 will be another unmissable, transcendent, history-making music experience that will elate, transport and soothe audiences.
