Manchester music royalty The Stone Roses return to Australia for the band’s most intimate performances ever: an in-the-round, Sydney-only series on the Concert Hall stage, from 12-14 December.
Earlier this year the mythic quartet burst back into public consciousness, kicking off a world tour with four hometown shows to 240,000 frenetic fans – the biggest of the band’s career. After conquering Manchester, The Stone Roses sold out New York’s Madison Square Garden, Dublin’s Marlay Park and a raucous headline slot at Scotland’s T In The Park festival.
This global tour de force will end, fittingly, in the Concert Hall of the Sydney Opera House, a venue hand-picked by the band to close their record-breaking tour.
The Stone Roses achieved massive commercial and critical success with only two albums and their eponymous 1989 debut is considered one of the greatest British albums of all time. The music scene in post punk Manchester defined an era – beginning with Joy Division, New Order and The Smiths, The Stone Roses bridged the gap into the modern era inspiring acts like Oasis and Artic Monkeys. The Roses’ influence continues to grow as audiences experience live performances powered by the rhythmic chemistry of Mani (bass) and Reni (drums), guitarist John Squire and the ever-prowling front man Ian Brown.
