One of Australia’s most endearing indie-rock artists The Delta Riggs return today with their mesmerising new single ‘The Real Electric’ – co-produced by Reuben Styles (Peking Duk) and the band themselves, mixed by Oscar Dawson (Holy Holy, Alex Lahey), with mastering by Brian Lucey at Magic Garden Mastering.
Taking cues from the likes of luminaries LCD Soundsystem, Empire of the Sun and The Rapture, ‘The Real Electric’ sees The Delta Riggs continue to sonically shapeshift, upholding their eclectic and ever-evolving approach to song writing and production. Dynamics and structure are harnessed with finesse, as the group effortlessly navigate through their latest offering of meticulously crafted indie-pop, melding a collection of nostalgic and modern-esque sounds.
The band touch on the meaning behind ‘The Real Electric’: “‘The Real Electric’ is about trying to save someone from themselves. Taking them out of their world and bringing them into yours.”
After releasing their fourth studio album Modern Pressure in 2019, The Delta Riggs were poised and ready to set up for a massive 2020, with the album’s lead single ‘Fake That’ being added to high rotation on triple j.
When the pandemic hit, band members continued to remain active, working across various projects, including Hayley Mary and Allday’s recordings, alongside their good friend and ARIA Award nominated producer, Scott Horscroft. They also launched solo projects, collaborated with Dope Lemon, Gold Fang and Dante Knows, and performed live as session musicians with the likes of Hayley Mary and Dan Sultan.
As the world started to return to some normality, the group headed back into the studio to start working on new material, which birthed ‘The Real Electric’ and more new music to come. To celebrate the release, The Delta Riggs will set out on a national tour, including performances in Naarm/Melbourne, Eora/Sydney, Meanjin/Brisbane, Boorloo/Perth and Wiradjuri/Bathurst for Vanfest.
Over the course of their career, The Delta Riggs have become one of Australia’s most celebrated indie-rock bands. Multiple singles have been added to high rotation on triple j and their record ‘Dipz Zebazios’ was a feature album on the station. They’ve also sold-out multiple headline tours, become a staple act on the festival circuit and shared stages with the likes of Foo Fighters, Kasabian and Billy Idol.
