Australia’s premiere extreme metal crew Thy Art Is Murder will be back on home soil to destroy all the venues they’ve been neglecting (and some new ones too) while they’ve been on the frontline spreading Holy War to far-flung corners of the world during the Coffin Dragger Tour. The third leg will see Graves and I, Valiance jump in the van with Thy Art Is Murder for an Australian tour of sheer brutality.
Joining Thy Art Is Murder on vocals will be Lochan Watt – the host of triple j’s The Racket. Watt’s pipes endured a vigorous initiation during the US leg of the Coffin Dragger tour which took in 39-dates around the country.
“This is the third iteration of the coffin dragger,” says guitarist Andy Marsh. “The idea being to drag death (metal {lol}) around the world to places we’ve never been before. The US leg saw us go to many states we’d never seen before, Europe we are going as Far East as Transylvania and now the Australian leg will see us play a whole bunch of regional towns, some we’ve never done, and others we’ve neglected for quite some time.”
Rising from the unhallowed wastes of Western Sydney, extreme metal outfit Thy Art Is Murder have carved a trail of bloody mayhem since their inception in 2006. With an acclaimed EP and and three albums to their name, the band have traversed the highways and autobahns of Australia, the UK and Europe on a relentless crusade to destroy every venue and audience they can with like-minded peers in a who’s who of heavy metal.
Thy Art Is Murder’s most recent album, Holy War, debuted at #7 on the ARIA Chart – the highest ever position for an extreme metal act – a feat they’ve scored twice. Always stoking controversy and criticism, the band refuse to tone down their art for the sake of palatability which has seen Holy War generate a wave of controversy for the strong anti-religious stance of the title track’s video, as well as the album cover which features references to a suicide bomber.
