The Walking Who, psychedelic rock trio of Rohin Brown, Paul Mclean and Jay Drury, this week unveil plans to release their new EP, Mansions. It has already debuted in the Top 200 on the CMJ Charts and at No. 17 on the US Submodern Charts amongst bands such as Jagwar Ma, Queens of The Stone Age and Vampire Weekend, with the track ‘Rita’ instantly to FBI Radio B Rotation.
To record the new EP, the band occupied a space that has come to be known as the ‘mansion’ in Wollongong. The house, built in the 60’s, was home to a wealthy old lady who owned a theatre in town and who sadly passed away in the master bedroom. The ‘mansion’ then came under the control of students and artists and was transformed to an artistic playground.
The first single, ‘Have You Seen The Colours’, has received monstrous amounts of airplay on FBI, and both Richard Kingsmill on 2013 and Dom Alessio on Home & Hosed have supported the track on National Broadcaster, Triple J.
Tone Deaf has premiered two videos from the ‘Live At The Mansion’ series. Recorded live at the house, the videos are a must-view, offering an insight into the band’s time there, with another two to be revealed in coming weeks.
As well as supporting The Delta Riggs on their Sept/Oct tour and playing BIGSOUND, The Walking Who wanted to create a unique experience for fans that represented their time in the ‘mansion’. The band has already played two Mansions shows around NSW and the final, intimate ‘Live At The Mansion’ show will take place in Avalon – fans apply for entry via the band’s Facebook.
The five new tracks embody The Walking Who and their time in the house, and like many of the strange and quirky items around the ‘mansion’ (roller skates, shoes and old furniture), it is another piece left behind by past occupants. The Mansions EP will be the last piece of art created from the space as the mansion is scheduled for demolition.
