[News] THIS WAY NORTH ANNOUNCE NEW SINGLE & TOUR DATES

This Way North-2

Releasing their second track for 2017 This Way North aren’t mucking around giving us some serious Eargasims. Following up from February’s summer sizzler ‘Head Above Water’ the pairdrop their latest single ‘Pressure’, a track that takes a very different turn from their previous releases.

‘Pressure’ is reminiscent of an ’80s teenage movie anthem, a pop gem dripping with lush guitar tracks and tight synth-like drumming. ‘Pressure’ was written when lead singer Leisha Jungalwalla was in the midst of having a ‘finger in too many pies’ juggling full time high school teaching, playing AFL football and touring. ‘Pressure’ is about how easy it is to drift away from yourself when there are so many different responsibilities that are pressed upon you. The places you go in your mind when it feels like there is too much going on in your life to keep up with.

When playing this song live Leisha is certainly putting the ‘Pressure’ on herself using a trove of pedals and live looping to create the lush layers of this track. The track was recorded with producer Derek Downham in Toronto in July 2016. He pushed the pair in a direction that they couldn’t have predicted, giving birth to the alt-pop sound that you hear on this track.

In support of new single ‘Pressure’, This Way North head off on tour up the east coast as well as South Australia and a bunch of regional shows in the Northern Territory (Wide Open Space Festival), Queensland (Sol Bar Maroochydore) and New South Wales (Mullumbimby and Wollumbi). This Way North will be joined by the likes of Tullara (Bris, Mullum, Maroochydore), Koral Chandler (Adelaide), Jai Pyne (Sydney) and playing a co-headline show at the Gasometer in Melbourne with Xani.

So far 2017 has seen This Way North play over 30 shows since January. The pair have played from Melbourne to New Zealand supporting artists such as The Turin Breaks (UK), The Jerry Cans (CAN) and sharing bills with Paprika Jones, She Loves You (NZ). Playing festivals such as Mordialloc Food and Wine festival, Bruthern Blues Festival, Chicks with Picks (SYD Mardi Gras), Ballarat Beer Festival, Sydney Rd Street Party and Chillout Festival.

This Way North’s live show leaves audiences with something different, something that is often hard to put into words. The true joy of playing live music shows. Their playful, yet deep connection on stage with each other and with the audience allows people to be reeled into the world they create sonically and visually. See it live when This Way North hit the road in April.
